Relax — AI isn’t stealing your job (yet)
Given the sheer capabilities of AI and how rapidly it’s been evolving in recent years, you would think that any day we could collectively find ourselves out of work. (That would be something, wouldn’t it?) 😨
But researchers over at MIT’s computer science and artificial intelligence lab tell us that it isn’t going to be so. At least not in the near future, and the change, even when it does come, will not be as swift or as drastic as our imagination might be telling us.
In a paper, the researchers concluded the following: AI is currently capable of “automating tasks that account for 1.6 % of worker wages in the US economy (excluding agriculture)” but just 23 % of those wages would be cheaper to automate than to keep actual people doing the work. That means that AI can, at this moment in time, replace around 0.4 % of US workers’ wages on the whole.
So, while AI might be able to do some things faster and with far greater accuracy than the average person can, it’s still costly enough to deter employers from venturing down that path. In other words, handing our jobs over to AI would be uneconomical. 💸

AI is your latest job search pal — here’s why 💡
In today’s competitive job market, jobseekers are constantly looking for a way to stand out from the crowd, and with AI’s latest advancements 🤖, many are using it to their advantage. So, if you’re not sure how to use AI in your search, follow these tips:
Streamline the job search process. If you’re finding it time-consuming to filter through different recruitment sites, use the power of AI to streamline this process. You could ask the chatbot to pull through the latest jobs for a specific role to speed things up!
Update your resume and cover letter. 📄 While we don’t advise using AI to write these documents for you, you can use it to your benefit to give you prompts on the skills you should include, or the specific structure to follow for your cover letter. Just be sure to edit it yourself so it’s authentic!
Suggest suitable career paths to follow. If you feel like you’re in need of a change of industry, AI can match your skills and experience to relevant roles — kind of acting like your personal recruiter!
Complete mock job interviews. 🤝 To help you prepare for a role, AI will mock an interview for you, prompting questions that you’ll need to answer. In addition, it will also provide suitable answers to inspire you.
