THE BIG IDEA

Hugs for money: A day in the life of a professional cuddler 🤗

There’s no denying that there are some weird and wonderful jobs out there, but this one is undoubtedly high up the list.

A professional cuddler, or touch therapist, is someone who is paid to cuddle, spoon and hug clients. But what does a typical day look like? This is an account from Betty Willow, a professional cuddler.

8:30am — Betty receives a text saying her first client of the day is on the way. She prepares the bedsheets for this client and puts on some “cuddle” clothes.

9:10am — She greets the client with a hug. When inside, they begin cuddling on the bed, with Betty resting her head on his chest.

11:45am — The session ends, and the client pays Betty USD200 for her time. He tells her when he’ll next be in town for another session. She grabs a burrito for lunch.

1:00pm — Betty does laundry and runs some errands, then meets her friends in the park and has some dinner before heading home.

8:00pm — She greets her next client, who’s a regular. He comes to Betty every week to fulfill his need for physical touch and emotional connection. He has a 4-hour session.

12:10am — Betty shows the client out and then heads to bed.

It seems to us that Betty makes a decent amount, comforts people and still gets to spend time with friends. Where do we sign up?!

TALKING POINT

Are you letting your inner voice sabotage you? ⛔

Do you walk into a room and feel like you don’t belong there? Do you avoid speaking up in meetings because you think your opinion doesn’t matter?

Nodding your head in agreement? Then you’re probably letting your inner voice sabotage your progression. But remember that you’re in that room for a reason: you earned your place to be there!

Many people in leadership roles end up adopting what’s called the “impostor syndrome”. But why do they feel the need to? We must start taking control of our own paths instead of allowing other people to determine it for us.

The answer is sometimes easier said than done. But instead of taking what someone says and spinning it into a negative, just take it for face value. Say “thank you” and move on. Always know your own worth and what you bring to the table. 💪

TODAY’S ADVICE

🍔 Stop sacrificing your lunch break to do more work

Your lunch break — whether it’s 15 or 30 minutes, or an hour — is there for the taking. It’s yours, so don’t let your job get in the way of it.

No matter how busy your day is, you need your downtime. For your mental and physical health. For your creativity. And even for your productivity.

So, how can you make your lunch break worth taking?

1. Enjoy the outdoors. Whether it’s going for a walk or sitting outside while you eat, spending time outdoors will help you clear your thoughts and boost your energy levels.

2. Go to the gym. Some exercise, even a quick workout at your desk, can reduce stress and the dangers of a sedentary lifestyle.

3. Read a book. Take your mind off work while you catch up on your reading — whether it’s Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban or Mindfulness for Beginners.

4. Listen to a podcast. From motivational to career-inspiring podcasts, you’re truly spoiled for choice here.

5. Socialize. One of the biggest benefits of break rooms is that they give you the chance to develop stronger relationships with your coworkers.
