TALKING POINT

We’re in ❤️ with hybrid work

Remote work is fading. Left, right and center, companies are scrapping work-from-home options…  And it makes us sad!

In our view, black-and-white approaches don't always work. Life is complex and ever-changing. Without flexibility, it becomes harder to keep up.

When it comes to the remote work debate, a hybrid model provides the best of both worlds. It lets the introvert work from inside a pillow fort if they want to. It gives the wanderer the change of scenery they need to thrive. It grants working parents more time with their children.

Returning to the office is about productivity. So, it shouldn't push against personal needs.

Our experience tells us this: employees who feel trusted and heard are bound to be productive. The ones you keep at arm’s length against their will… Not so much!

What say you? Reply and let us know if you’re pro or against hybrid work!

AFFIRMATION OF THE DAY

I will be productive and wise with my time today so I can achieve my goals.

TODAY'S ADVICE

Add THESE to your job search toolkit!

job search

You might have the right qualifications, skills and experience, but that’s just the first step to finding a job. You need to communicate your value to potential employers and convince them to hire you.

How can you do that? By adding these five essentials to your toolkit:

1. A big list of contacts. 85 per cent of jobs are filled through networking. What does this mean? Start taking advantage of every possibility to grow your industry connections.

2. A résumé. No job application is complete without a carefully written résumé. Make sure to tailor it to each job that you apply for, and use statistics to quantify your achievements. Need help writing your résumé? We got your back!

3. A cover letter. You’ll likely be dropped from consideration if you forget to attach a cover letter. Always include one (unless you’re specifically asked not to). And, like your résumé, make sure it’s tailored to your target job.

4. An online presence. The 21st-century recruitment process involves researching candidates online. And jobseekers with no digital footprint are less likely to land an interview. A website, an online portfolio and a LinkedIn profile will improve your chances.

5. A professional outfit. After all, you want to look good for the interview you’re going to land, right? Men should go for a suit, jacket and tie, while women should wear a blouse and pants or a knee-length skirt.

ASK AN EXPERT

Our resident career and résumé expert Chris Leitch answers your job, career and job search questions every week!

This week, Mike C from Los Angeles, CA asks:

🗨️ The smell of my cubicle neighbor’s lunch makes me sick. She keeps eating tuna, chicken curry and other sorts of smelly food at her desk. What can I do?

Ah, the pungency! Mike, honesty is always the right policy. Talk to her and politely explain how you feel. But try not to make her feel bad about it. The last thing you want is to create an enemy out of your coworker. That said, if things do spiral out of control and she ignores you, then it’s a good idea to escalate the situation to HR. You might have a hostile work environment claim on your hands.
