Getting on the Executive Radar: Networking Up for Leadership Visibility

Ever feel like executive leadership knows everyone except you? A September 2026 LinkedIn study found that 72% of Gen Z professionals feel disconnected from people who could help their careers. Meanwhile, applicants with an inside connection were nearly 7x more likely to get hired.
Here are the tricks to be memorable for what you bring, not what you want:
Add insight, not applause. Comment on a leader's LinkedIn post with a thoughtful point, relevant example, or fresh perspective.
Do your homework. Before reaching out, learn what the executive is working on. Reference a specific project/business to show a genuine reason to connect.
Find a warm introduction. A mutual colleague can help bridge the gap. Ask for an introduction with context, not a favor that puts them on the spot.
Keep your first message short. Explain why you're reaching out, provide something relevant, and skip the immediate ask for mentorship or a job.
Follow up with a purpose. Within a day or two of meeting, send a note that references your conversation. Share a useful resource or insight—then let the relationship develop naturally.
You don’t need to collect impressive contacts. Executive networking is about building genuine relationships before you need them. Your next opportunity might start with one thoughtful interaction.

Your experience is real. Can you prove it?

Most professionals are qualified but unreadable. Their real work — the problems they solved, the decisions they made under pressure — never survives the résumé, so hiring systems screen them out before a human ever sees them.
The Living Professional Record is a worker-owned, evidence-linked record of your actual work: what happened, what you did, what constrained you, what changed, and what evidence supports it. From that one record, you render your résumé, your LinkedIn profile, and your interview answers — consistent, specific, and provable.
