DAILY INSPO

THE BIG IDEA

Walk your way to ka-ching! 🚶‍♂️

Are you tired of walking aimlessly around town with no real motivation to get those steps in? Fear no more, because there are apps that will pay you to walk. That’s right: getting paid to casually exercise is actually possible, and it’s time to start cashing in on your daily steps!

This emerging trend is gaining traction, especially among students, as they can bring in payment just by going about their day-to-day lives.

Giuseppe Leonello is among the masses of people trying out the trend. He downloaded a step counter app called Sweatcoin and then set on his way to being less of a couch potato.

These apps work by tracking your steps, which then convert into “coins”. For his experiment, Guiseppe used Sweatcoin for 4 weeks with an average of 14,000 steps a day. At the end, he had 89.47 “sweatcoins”. This roughly translates to about 80 cent.

It might not seem like a lot, but multiply that by 30 days, and you’ve got yourself over $ 10 from walking!

These “coins” can be used for a variety of things, too, like discounts on FitBits and Apple Watches.

Is this a weird “job”? I don’t know, but if it gives you some decent discounts and perks, it’s worth a shot!

TALKING POINT

Faking it but still not making it?

Some 45 years ago, psychologists Pauline Clance and Suzanne Imes noticed a pattern: back in the ’70s, successful women had the tendency to doubt themselves… A lot. Clance and Imes called this the “impostor phenomenon” — which even they themselves experienced!

Of late, studies show that around 70 % of the population feel like “intellectual phonies”. These people live in fear that, one day, someone will realize how unworthy of praise they are. But living in perpetual anxiety is no way to live. If you belong to that 70 %, psychologists recommend you try:

😌 Letting go of the idea of perfection

💗 Building your self-compassion

🙌 Owning both your successes and failures

TODAY’S ADVICE

Thinking of quitting your job? Wait a sec…

Quitting a job is a big decision — and not one to take lightly. While there are certainly valid reasons to leave your job, there are also some bad reasons that could hurt your career in the long-run.

Below are three of them:

1. You’re bored. Most jobs — no matter how glamorous — become a little boring and repetitive sometimes. The wise thing to do is to ask yourself whether your job is challenging and satisfying rather than boring.

2. You made a mistake. Everyone makes mistakes at work. It’s only human, after all. But it’s not a good enough excuse to pack up and leave, no matter how embarrassed you feel. Instead, learn from your mistakes and keep moving forward.

3. You had a disagreement with your manager. Workplace conflict is inevitable — and it’s certainly not uncommon. Unless your manager is bullying or harassing you, stay put and figure things out with them. Chances are it was just the heat of the moment.

If you do decide to quit, don’t do it on an impulse. And make sure you have something else lined up first.
