Mom of five turns side-hustle into a 6-figure business

mom working

During the pandemic, Alex Frost had an awakening as she logged into her online class of 10th graders. Feeling overworked and underpaid, she decided that her passions lay outside of teaching. Instead, Alex felt her true calling was in writing. So, to follow her dreams, she set up her freelancing writing business.

The process for Alex wasn’t an overnight hit. She told Reader’s Digest that she merely earned $ 500 during her first month of freelancing. That said, three years later, Alex is making over $ 250k a year on a part-time schedule.

So, what is her secret to victory? For Alex, dedication and networking was key. She entered conversations that were relevant to her, and managed to establish a secure livelihood.

ASK AN EXPERT

I got into an argument with my manager 🥊

Lori E from Devon, England asks:

💬 I got into a heated argument with my manager. What should I do? I want to clear the air, but I still think she was in the wrong.

Unpleasant and disheartening as they may be, arguments happen — be that in the household or the office. Once you’ve taken the time to calm down, try to consider your manager’s point of view. She must have a reason for holding her opinion, right? In the meantime, try to minimize contact with her.

If you want to keep your job (and your manager didn’t personally attack you!), I suggest apologizing for your tone, not what you believe. The sooner you clear the air, the better — for your own peace of mind!
