The workplace transparency bar is low
If you haven’t heard what’s happening “across the pond”, British retail chain Wilko has collapsed, costing 12k people their jobs. And, according to a former Wilko employee, management didn’t do a very good job at communicating when exactly the (400+) store closures would occur. 🤐
“Every single update that we’ve had on the whole process has come through [TV] news,” the man has told BBC Radio. “It’s really annoying after I’ve committed 16 years and I’ve not heard anything from [them].”
Unfortunately, this story is a little too familiar. Remember former Twitter employee Halli Thorleifsson who had to tweet Elon Musk to ask if he was still employed or not? “The head of HR has [...] not been able to answer whether or not I am an employee at Twitter,” Halli had told the BBC earlier this year during the tech layoffs ordeal. 😰
We can’t help but wonder where companies have gone so wrong that their very own people become the very last to know.

Robots vs résumés
