TALKING POINT

Beware the “loud laborer” ⚠️

loud worker

You probably remember the term “quiet quitting” that went viral on TikTok in 2022. If not, it refers to doing the absolute minimum at work due to a profuse lack of engagement and/or burnout. Last month, another workplace trend emerged: “loud laborers”. Let’s talk about them (at an acceptable volume). 🗣️

Much like quiet quitters, who unofficially throw in the towel, loud laborers are employees that spend more time talking about working than actually working... Which, again, impacts their team’s overall productivity. 😪

When workers are too tired and stressed to work, they’ll find ways to waste time while seeming busy and engaged. This puts additional strain on their coworkers, who have to work harder to cover for them — until they themselves become too tired and stressed to care. That’s why it’s more important than ever for companies to reward hard-working individuals, respect their time away from work, and effectively manage underperforming employees.

Do you have any loud laborers on your team? Reply and let us know.

TODAY’S ADVICE

The structure of an effective résumé

If you’re writing a résumé, either for the 1st or the 31st time, you might be wondering what to include — and how to include it.

Well, a typical résumé must include the following 5 sections:

  1. A header containing your name, job title and contact information

  2. A professional summary that quickly encapsulates your skills and experience

  3. Your most relevant work history, organized from latest to oldest jobs

  4. Your educational background

  5. A list of job-specific soft and hard skills

If you’re a student or a recent graduate with restricted or no work experience, then you should switch around your work history and education. Meanwhile, you can also optionally include additional sections like awards, publications and memberships.
