Happy Wednesday! 😏 This hump day, we’re talking about:

  • Mental health: It’s a workplace concern (at least it should be).

  • Agreeableness: It will help you stand out.

  • Finding your dream career: It’s as easy as ABC.

⚡ TODAY’S AFFIRMATION: I control my future.

TALKING POINT

Feeling blue at work? 😔

feeling blue

Sadly, summer's coming to an end. This got us thinking that some people really struggle with end-of-summer blues. And that got us thinking that, in fact, people struggle with all sorts of blues, not just seasonal blues, and that maybe it's a good idea that we talk about it more.

According to the WHO, 1 in 8 people are living with a mental disorder like anxiety and depression. That’s more than 1b people around the world. It also states that people in poor work environments (facing excessive workloads, discrimination or underpromotion, for example) are more likely to experience mental health problems. So, we owe it to one another as colleagues and as bosses to:

🤗 Create safe spaces at work where people can be vulnerable.
⚖️ Reward staff fairly.
🕒 Respect people’s downtime.
🛑 Enforce disciplinary measures to combat bullying in the workplace.

TODAY’S ADVICE

Want to stand out? Focus on being agreeable

Staying late, making your voice heard, and looking for ways to demonstrate your skills may show your independence. But they show little of your ability to work on a team.

Recently, managers have abandoned their search for star employees in favor of agreeable ones. Current research shows they’re wise in doing so. In terms of task uncertainty, one determining factor of a team’s success is the agreeableness of its members. Trying to be the star of the workplace may thus be damaging to the team (and your career).

So if you’re looking to excel in the workplace, don’t try to be a star. Try and focus on the these attributes instead:

  • Cooperation

  • Even temperament

  • Openness

  • Flexibility

WELLNESS CENTER

Proud chest!

chest stretch

Sitting at a desk for hours at a time is pretty bad for our posture. Luckily, doing a few stretches throughout the day can help us stay healthy and flexible.

This chest stretch is one of our favorites, as it improves blood flow, increases mobility, and reduces the risk of injury! Hold for 30 seconds and release, repeating 2–4 times.
