Habit tracking, the converted bowling alley office, vicinity attraction…
Hello Friday! 😎 To end the week, we’ve got:
STRIKE! A Tokyo office in a converted bowling alley.
Heart-shaped glasses: How to fall out of love with your manager.
Our gift to you: An editable habit tracker.
💡 QUOTE OF THE DAY: “Just don't give up trying to do what you really want to do. Where there is love and inspiration, I don't think you can go wrong.” — Ella Fitzgerald, American jazz singer
THE BIG IDEA
Central park in a downtown high rise
TBWA\HAKUHODO is Japan’s second-largest advertising agency. Their company motto: “disruption”. Or, as they describe it: “challenging conventional ideas”. It shouldn’t come as a surprise then that the company operates out of an office located in Tokyo that does just that. 🗼
Built in 2007 by Klein Dytham Architecture, TBWA\HAKUHODO’s office was designed to reuse the features of an existing structure. That structure: an eight-story amusement complex in downtown Tokyo! The cool office is, in fact, located in a converted bowling alley above a driving range.
🎳 Rather than rebuild the space from scratch, KDA made use of its existing features. These include bowling lanes and large ceiling beams that span the length of the alley office. The space includes a large central park, complete with grassy knolls, outdoor furniture and trees. The result? A worksite that seamlessly blends downtown business with suburban park.

📝 FRIDAY’S TO DO:
Bring a packed lunch to work 🍏 At least once a week, try to dodge ordering or eating out. Instead, bring something from home — preferably something yummy and healthy.
TODAY’S ADVICE
Going heart-eyed over the manager 😍
Heard of “vicinity attraction”? That’s when you develop feelings for someone because you’re around them constantly. Even if you haven’t heard of the term, you may have still experienced it; or perhaps you’re going through it currently. With your supervisor, out of everyone. This is what you should do:
📺 Distract yourself. Work harder. Take on additional projects. Go for walks on your lunch break or watch some YouTube. Anything — just keep your mind occupied.
💃 Seek out opportunities to socialize. There are so many people at work you can come close to (with zero repercussions). Go make some friends!
🛫 Take a holiday. Putting some time and distance between yourself and the office would be good. Just don't tell your team the reason.
