Happy Book Lovers Day! 📖 You’ve got some reading to do on:

  • Film industry strikes: Are virtual actors replacing real ones?

  • Résumé headers: They matter more than you think.

  • Making recruiters say yes: Résumé feedback from our experts.

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION: I celebrate all of me: my progress and accomplishments, no matter how small.

TALKING POINT

Lights, robots, action!

June saw SAG-AFTRA and its 160k members go on strike. Their demands were increased royalties from streaming services and restrictions on the use of artificial intelligence in the industry. 🎬

More specifically, actors are concerned at the prospect of AI taking over background roles to cut expenditure for producers, replacing extras with virtual actors. (Yes, it can do that.) At the same time, realistically, an outright ban on AI in films is highly unlikely. 🙅‍♂️

Are actors about to be added to the long list of professionals that AI and machines could potentially replace? How would we, as viewers, feel supporting a practice that’s bound to take away at least a large chunk out of people's pay — if not wipe it out entirely? Not to mention, how would it feel looking at a (seemingly) real person on screen and knowing it’s fake?

TODAY’S ADVICE

Impactful résumé headers

Your résumé header — the topmost section on your document — is the first thing prospective employers will look at. This is what you must include in it to make it catchy and impactful:

1. Start with your full name. 👋 This goes at the very top, before everything else, and needs to have the same spelling you use on your social profiles and professional documents.

2. Add your title or a headline right beneath. 🎓 The first one looks like “Paralegal”, while the second sounds like this: “Paralegal with 8 Years’ Experience in Large Law Firms”.

3. Include your number, email address and location. 📍 Keep your location general without mentioning your exact mailing address. For example: “Washington, DC”.
