THE BIG IDEA
From culinary artist to successful food photographer
It was by accident that Sean Audet got into photography. But it wasn’t by accident that he made a six-figure career for himself as a culinary photographer. 📷
It began when Sean, then a fine-dining chef, was running a pop-up restaurant twice a week. At the time, he was also working as a culinary researcher at Red River College in Winnipeg, Canada. It was then that Sean had an epiphany: he and his students could help advertise businesses. With food photography. He became pretty good at it, too.
🤟 So, two years later, he started his side hustle. Lucky for him, he had zero startup expenses. How? By using school equipment. By 2020, he was able to invest $ 15,200 for equipment, ditch the 9–5 and become a freelance food photographer.
It wasn’t easy (or well-paying) at first. But with determination and a list of good-paying clients, he was able to generate $ 133,900 in revenue in 2022.
What are your thoughts on Sean’s career change? Reply and let us know!

TODAY’S ADVICE
Tell your boss “no” 🙅
If your higher-up calls you into work after hours, you might want to establish some boundaries. As with everything, there are ways and then there are ways to do this: some can lead to a resolution, and some might cause things to escalate. Let’s talk about saying “no” in an affirmative manner:
🤔 Consider the context. Is your manager doing this to annoy you, or is there a legitimate reason they called you? Do they do this often, or is this an isolated event?
🤫 Don't give elaborate excuses. Explain your reason for being unable to help without delving into unnecessary details. Short and sweet!
✋ Don’t give into threats. Stay professional, even if your supervisor threatens you. Repeat your reasons for saying “no”, and if they don’t respect you, it may be time to look for a different job.
