Mind mapping, the kid farmer, workspace decor, and more…

Birds flyin’ high, you know how we feel! 🎵 And we’re feeling good with:

  • The 11-year-old farmer: How a young boy came to rent land.

  • Workspace decor: Why you should pay attention to it.

  • Mind mapping: The tool that can boost your memory.

💡 QUOTE OF THE DAY: “It's fine to celebrate success, but it is more important to heed the lessons of failure.” — Bill Gates, American business magnate

THE BIG IDEA

The 11-year-old farmer 🧑‍🌾

farm gif

If we asked you to picture a farmer, what mental image would you draw? Possibly not that of an 11-year-old boy in work boots and an ascot cap. But there’s at least one farmer out there who fits this description: Joe Trofer-Cook.

Joe lives in Lincolnshire, UK, where he’s currently renting a plot of land and looking after his own cows, sheep, chickens and a Border Collie called Spud. He’s recently started spinning wool, too, and selling it along with his produce. (In case you're wondering, he saved up for this before and during the COVID-19 pandemic, selling homegrown vegetables and fresh eggs!)

A big reason why he loves to work with animals is the therapeutic effect it has on him: Joe has autism and the animals provide him comfort. (We’re not crying; you’re crying.)

TODAY’S ADVICE

Workspace decor for productivity

We spend an estimated 90,000 hours at work over our lifetimes. So, we might as well try and make it as pleasant as possible! This is how you can decorate your workspace so that it boosts your mood and productivity:

🎨 Pick the right colors. Blue promotes creativity, while green is for growth. And red enhances attention to detail! Read into color psychology and make your pick.

🌿 Adopt some plants. Besides filtering the air we breathe, plants have been shown to reduce stress and anxiety. Who doesn’t need that at work?

💡 Find a few gadgets or trinkets you love. They can be excellent conversation starters and allow your personality to shine through.

What’s the biggest challenge you’ve faced at work?

challenge illustration

Every workplace and career comes with its own set of unique challenges. It could be having a hard time fitting in, collaborating with difficult coworkers or getting along with power-hungry management.

It could also be a mistake that wasted hours of company time, like accidentally deleting a company-wide database of images you thought was on your computer alone (of course you wouldn’t do that!).
