💡 QUOTE OF THE DAY: “Do not stop thinking of life as an adventure. You have no security unless you can live bravely, excitingly, imaginatively; unless you can choose a challenge instead of competence.” ― Eleanor Roosevelt, former US First Lady

THE BIG IDEA

Time to move to Zurich? ✈️

Google Zurich office reel

Year after year, Google has ranked among the top employers on Earth. As the multinational tech giant states: “We strive to provide Googlers and their loved ones with a world-class benefits experience.” And they do!

Apart from “the usual”, such as health plans (which not everyone can take for granted), Googlers benefit from onsite wellness centers, 1-on-1 coaching on their finances, backup childcare, and massage programs. Plus more! 😍

But it’s not just the employee benefits that make working at Google a joy. It’s also the spaces themselves! Just look at Google Zurich, for example, made by Evolution Design. As the firm states, the space was designed to “stimulate creativity, and elevate energy and productivity levels.”

⚙️ In their words, they achieved this by making the working spaces functional and personalizable, and the communal areas entertaining. There’s even a presentation room that looks like a cinema. And a room with bathtubs, filled with pillows, to relax in! There’s even a wine cellar — and a band rehearsal room. Honestly, what more could you ask for?

So, what do you say — is it time to move to Switzerland yet? Reply and let us know.

Try time blocking 🧱 Split up your day into time “blocks” and dedicate each one to a specific task. This reduces multitasking and helps you stay on track.

TODAY’S ADVICE

To take a gap year or not to take a gap year?

There are many reasons for taking a gap year. These can be good and bad, and might include:

  • Enhancing your résumé

  • Traveling

  • Becoming a semi-pro couch potato

Before you start booking plane tickets or investing in a six-month supply of popcorn, you might want to weigh your options carefully. To help you do so, we’ve provided a list of a few pros and cons of taking a gap year. ⚖️

✔️ Pros:

  • Take a break from studying. It can help you return to future studies refreshed.

  • Build some work experience. You’ll have something to fall back on after college.

  • Make a dollar or two. If you have a job lined up for your gap year, you’ll have some savings for the future.

Cons:

  • Can be a distraction. Taking a year out might upset your long-term plans.

  • Requires self-direction. If you’re unfocused, a gap year can easily turn into multiple unproductive years.

  • Can be costly. Traveling the world sure sounds awesome, but it can easily drain your savings account!

Taking a gap year is an important personal choice. Whatever you decide, make sure you’ve weighed the pros and cons carefully!

ASK AN EXPERT

The lunch thief 🕵️

Got a workplace, career or job search question? Our experts have got the answers!

From Columbus, OH, Steve M asks:

🗨️ Someone keeps stealing my lunch. What do I do?

This is probably the worst crime anyone can commit at work!

First, find out if it’s just your lunch that is going missing. Either way, you should escalate it to your manager or to HR — if there’s any CCTV footage of the thief, they should receive a warning. ⚠️

If you know who it is, be direct. Just tell them to quit taking your lunch. But do this privately. That said, if they keep doing it, you could do it publicly.

There are also other things you can do, like purposely making your lunch look unappetizing, putting your lunch in boxes that lock, and even writing little notes à la Ross Gellar (without the eventual mental breakdown).
