THE BIG IDEA
From blueberry picking to global domination
One of the most interesting stories we’ve come across is that of Ronnie Teja. Teja, who grew up in Jalandhar and studied in Mumbai, India, left the country at the age of 22.
Moving to London, he enrolled in a master’s degree at LSE, just to have his studies cut short when his family emigrated to Canada. There, Teja worked multiple jobs to help his family, including picking blueberries in a field. For a few years, he was waking up before 5am and working 7 days a week.
Later on, Teja did the digital marketing and PR for Team India in the 2010 Winter Olympics. This was followed by gigs at HSBC and Best Buy Canada… As well as two failed startup attempts: a media buying agency and a men’s jewelry brand.
But Teja kept dreaming big and, in 2015, he got his big break with Branzio Watches, an eCommerce business he scaled up to bring in 8-figure revenues. At present, he splits his time between Vancouver, Melbourne and Bangkok, and shares his advice to aspiring entrepreneurs.

📝 WEDNESDAY’S TO DO:
Do a body scan 🧘♀️ Focus on one body part at a time. Start from your head and “scan down” to your feet. Is there any tension or pain you hadn’t noticed?
TODAY’S ADVICE
Calm down, Mr Bossy!
In or out of the office, it’s impossible to get along with everyone you meet. And although you can choose who you spend time with outside of work, you don’t pick your colleagues. This means you have to find ways to cope with the ones who drive you nuts.
We’ll talk about bossy coworkers in particular — and how to handle those:
✋ Stand up for yourself. Next time they butt in and give you instructions you didn’t ask for, try saying: “Hey, I don’t need help. I know what I’m doing.” Do your best to sound calm, especially if you haven’t ever confronted them before.
🕺 Mimic their body language. Bossy people have an air about them. You know what we mean. So, when you hear their proud footsteps approaching, straighten your back and greet them with the most unbreakable eye contact you can manage.
❓ Ask questions. When they invite themselves over to your desk, ask them to justify their reasoning. “My way works. Why should I do it this way?”, for example. Or “I’ve done this before. Is there a reason you think I need guidance?”
🙊 Be honest. If asserting yourself and setting boundaries seems to be no use, straight up let them know how you feel. Choose “I” statements like “I don’t feel good when this happens” to steer clear of triggering a full-blown argument.
😾 Let your manager or HR know. Sometimes, you’ll try everything and it still will not be enough. As your last resort, ask someone with more authority to observe and intervene as needed.
