Welcome to Week 23! 😊 On this National Thank God it's Monday Day:

  • Snow Milk: How a 42-year-old made $ 100k in one month.

  • I love Monday: Go from tolerating Mondays to celebrating them.

  • Pivoting: The strategy that differentiates successes from failures.

THE BIG IDEA

This guy upgraded his life by upcycling apparel

Doobie Duke Sims spent years as a touring musician, sleeping in a van and living on pizza and Coke. Then in 2018, his daughter was born. With the birth of his daughter came the birth of a new era: one that required a steady job and paycheck. So he taught himself screen printing, responded to an ad on Craigslist for a fully equipped printshop and started an apparel brand.

🧣 That company, Snow Milk, upcycles clothing items. Sims buys clothes without visible logos or patterns from thrift stores and clothing wholesalers. He then resells these items with custom images printed on them. Every item Snow Milk prints is one of a kind and comes with individual numbers to showcase their uniqueness. For Sims, the individual numbering of items shows the imperfect nature of art.

But the company’s founding, like Sims’ artistic creations, was by no means ideal. According to Sims, in the year Snow Milk was founded (2020), he made just $ 50. But two years later in December 2022, the company brought in $ 96k. Over the next 5 months, he sold over $ 260k worth of items. 😲

While Sims has yet to become rich (he paid himself a little over $ 12k last year), he plans to build Snow Milk over the next few years to sell it with an interest.

 📝 MONDAY’S TO DO:

Stretch your legs 🚶 If your job is a sedentary one, a couple of leg stretches can help tight, stiff muscles and improve flexibility. Better yet, go out for a walk on your lunch break — the fresh air will also do you good.

TODAY’S ADVICE

Make Mondays awesome

Ew 🤢 Mondays, right? Notorious for being everyone’s least favorite day of the week, Mondays can suck. But the truth is that too much complaining and negativity can make the situation worse.

So, there’s just one thing we can do: learn to love Mondays.

And these quick tips will help you do just that.

😴 Sleep well over the weekend. The later you stay up over the weekend, the more messed up your body clock becomes. Try to go to bed around the same time you usually do on weekdays. You’ll end up feeling less tired and groggy on Monday.

❤️ Be kind to yourself. Make it a daily habit of reciting positive affirmations like “This will be an awesome day” or even “I am a strong, independent woman/man”. The positivity you’ll feel will mentally prepare you for the day ahead.

🍳 Have breakfast. There’s a reason why it’s dubbed the “most important meal of the day”. Studies show that those who skip breakfast are likely to face more problems with focus, energy and metabolism.

🎯 Set yourself an achievable goal. This should be easy to hit but hard enough to make you feel like you’ve worked for it. This can be anything from getting out of bed in the morning to solving a big issue at work.

Music at work: The same as at home?

listening to music

🎶 Everyone has their favorite musical styles, artists and bands. But sometimes work makes you feel like you need something a little… out of the ordinary. Maybe it’s to break up the day. Maybe it’s wanting to separate your work from your personal life.

Sometimes it can help to break up the day by listening to something you wouldn’t normally listen to in your house or on the car ride to and from work.

Do you listen to the same music? Let us know!
