Cover letter checklist, time management, gamifying braille, and more…
The workweek is nigh 🏁 This Friday, we’ve got:
Gamifying braille: How one startup is making a difference.
Master the art of time: Tips to end procrastination for good.
Cover letter checklist: Make sure your letter hits the right notes.
💡 QUOTE OF THE DAY: “I've learned it’s important not to limit yourself. You can do whatever you really love to do, no matter what it is.” ― Ryan Gosling, Canadian actor
THE BIG IDEA
The startup gamifying braille
Thinkerbell Labs, an EdTech startup based in Bengaluru, India, saw an issue: global literacy among the visually impaired is far too low. In light of limits to the levels of student–teacher interaction normally required for learning braille and a lack of facilities for the visually impaired to study braille at home, they believed that the world needed to do better.
So they devised a solution: make education more accessible for the visually impaired by gamifying braille. And so they developed Annie, described as the “world’s first self-learning braille device for the visually impaired.” Designed to emulate an arcade game-style experience, it’s capable of scheduling lessons, giving feedback, and making corrections both offline and online.
Annie’s origin story happened in 2014, while the company’s cofounders, Sanskriti Dawle and Aman Srivastava, were still at university. While that project aimed at building a dictateacher which could help its user learn braille, they quickly realized it could be the basis for revolutionizing literacy education for the visually impaired.
In 2022, Thinkerbell Labs partnered with American Printing House for the Blind to create Polly, the world’s first WiFi-enabled electronic braille slate and stylus. It was awarded as one of the Best Inventions of 2022 by Time.

TODAY’S ADVICE
Run out of time no more ⏱️
In the era of distractions, procrastination can seem inevitable. And, even when we’re not willingly procrastinating, our brains can become so fogged up with information that they shut down. The result? We fall behind on our to-do list — again. Luckily, there are a few fool-proof ways to manage time better at work!
⏰ Work in timed intervals. No cat videos or other distractions for an hour, for example. Then, when the time is up, stand up, stretch and spend 5 minutes actively doing something other than work.
🗑️ Eliminate clutter (physical or virtual). You can’t quickly begin a task when you can’t find the information you seek… Because your inbox or workstation is in a permanent state of chaos.
🔨 Break your tasks into tiny bits. Having a clear outline of what needs to be done makes getting started easier. Plus, smaller tasks are easier to accomplish, which is motivating and helps you stay on track.
🤹 Say “no” to multitasking. Your mind needs time to effectively switch between tasks, even if you think otherwise. Learning to compartmentalize, or think “one thing at a time”, is a good way to stay focused.
🤖 Befriend technology. You can use your phone to waste time… Or you can use it to speed up your day-to-day. Adding timers, reminders and virtual assistant apps to your toolkit can salvage a lot of your time.

ASK AN EXPERT
Quitting for the right opportunities
Got a question about your career or job search? Well, our experts are (virtually) by your side to give you an answer.
💭 This week, Su W from Washington, DC asks:
I just started a job, but I received another offer. What should I do?
“You might feel guilty about leaving a job you just started, but you really shouldn’t. I mean.. they would dump you just as quickly. You don’t owe them anything.
“BUT before you hand in your resignation, it’s a good idea to really evaluate what’s on the plate. Is it better than your current job (salary- and benefits-wise)? Would you have more opportunities for professional growth and career advancement? Ultimately, ask yourself: is it worth it?
“If you do decide to accept the job, make sure that you follow the proper procedures of the current company when it comes to resigning. Professionalism is key.”
