THE BIG IDEA

The world’s your oyster 🦪

Visiting 20 countries in 5 years might sound like a Guinness World Record attempt, but for Daniella Pashuk, it was reality.

Pushak started as a digital nomad when she was just 19. She had just got into an online university degree program and decided to start traveling full time while working as a freelance writer. At 24, Pashuk has traveled to 20 different countries in the span of just 5 years.

While the experience has been life-changing for her, it hasn’t always been easy. Especially not on a $ 2,500 to $ 3,500 monthly salary. But she has a few tricks to help cut expenses:

  1. Choose which type of nomad you want to be: a frequent mover or a “slow digital nomad”.

  2. Use a multi-currency debit card to steer clear of costly bank fees and locked accounts.

  3. Research the value of daily items in the country you want to work in.

  4. Be aware of local tax requirements.

TODAY’S ADVICE

The (work) battles worth fighting for 🤼‍♂️

the office gif

Considering that we spend a good amount of time at work, it’s inevitable that we’re going to at some point clash with those that we work with. And it’s simply natural: we have different personalities, perspectives and approaches.

Because of this, it can sometimes be difficult navigating the workplace and maintaining professional relationships. But the trick lies in how we handle tough situations — and in knowing what’s worth fighting for and speaking up about.

So, which battles at work should you pick?

🧍‍♂️ Stand your ground when:

  • You’re the expert on the matter and understand it better than anyone else

  • You’d be fighting something unethical or potentially damaging to the company or harmful to customers

  • Ignoring the situation would lead to bigger issues for yourself, the company or your coworkers.

😎 But let it go when:

  • It’s your turn to throw someone a bone (provided that it’s not a regular thing)

  • You don’t have evidence to back up your case or you’d be opining a situation you don’t fully understand

  • You’d be fighting something that doesn’t affect or involve you.

If you do decide to fight for something, make sure you approach the situation calmly, gracefully and diplomatically, and provide solutions — simply shining a light on an issue will not fix anything.
