OPINION

Time to bin lengthy interview processes 🥱

flicking paper into bin

🐎 Life in the 21st century can sometimes feel like a race. We’re zooming around, juggling hobbies, work and responsibilities, and squeezing in a bit of downtime whenever we can. Even our faster, smarter gadgets and self-cleaning appliances are testimony to our living in fast-forward. So, how come some companies have completely missed the memo?

Although 2–3 rounds of interviews is a reasonable average, the recruitment process can drag on for months in some cases. What’s ironic about this is that, while companies take their time looking for the ideal match, they’re usually just causing their best candidates to lose interest. 🙄 How’s that for irony?

At the end of the day, can you really, totally, absolutely ensure that someone is going to be a good fit before they’ve started working? The answer is you can’t (and that’s what probation periods are for). In the words of writer John Green: “We can't know better until knowing better is useless.”
