THE BIG IDEA

Selling used clothes: A 6-figure income source?

buried in clothes

Chances are your closet is filled with clothes, shoes and other accessories you haven’t worn in a while. Maybe you grew out of them. Maybe your style has changed. At some point, you might be inclined to approach the beast that has become your closet with a poking stick and trash bag in hand, like a junk hoarder’s readaptation of medieval folklore.

A conflict arises. Too nice to throw away, but not suitable enough to keep.

Have you considered selling them online?

That’s exactly what Sandra Wyer did. In 2018, Wyer, a stay-at-home mom, was looking for a way to monetize her used clothes. Since then, her side hustle has turned into a lucrative career, earning her upwards of $ 20k monthly. In 2022, she generated $ 119k by modeling her listings and hosting two live shows every week.

TODAY’S ADVICE

Switching jobs like a pro 🏆

Whether you’re looking to advance your career, your current job is no longer enjoyable or you want better compensation, there are many reasons why you may want to change jobs.

But finding another job when you’re already employed can be a little challenging. You don’t want to be caught, and you want to be as proactive as possible.

These 6 tips will help you:

1. Update your résumé. Make sure it showcases any latest projects you worked on and achievements you’ve accomplished since your last job search.

2. Don’t drop hints. Keep your job hunt to yourself. Telling one coworker is often the same as telling everyone. And it could land you in hot water with your current employer.

3. Schedule interviews outside work hours. Or at least take it as leave. You can have so many doctor appointments before you raise suspicion. 🤨

4. Don’t use your manager as a reference. You run the risk of surprising them that you’re looking to quit.

5. Ask potential employers to be discreet. Be clear and specific about your need for discretion. You don’t know who the hiring manager knows — including your current manager.

6. Set time aside for your job search. Dedicate an hour a day after work, or even the weekend, to looking for other opportunities. Whatever you do, don’t search for jobs on company time.
