THE BIG IDEA

This chef’s food is going to the dogs… Literally 🐕

A couple of decades ago, Rahmi Massarweh was working as a chef and specializing in classic French cooking. Though still a chef, Massarweh’s audience no longer consists of hungry humans. Instead, it consists of peckish dogs. So, how did this happen?

Back in 2010, Massarweh and his wife Alessandra got their first dog: an English Mastiff called Grizzly. From the beginning, the couple used to prepare fresh meals for their four-legged friend using seasonal, whole foods. Until, one day, they decided to share their creations with the rest of the canine world.

Launching Dogue in 2015, a fine dining café for doggos, the couple started serving their small-batch, artisanal meals to San Fransiscan pooches. The restaurant also serves pastries (dubbed pawtisserie) and a $ 75 tasting menu — which Massarweh calls a “journey of flavor”. C'est magnifique!

TODAY’S ADVICE

Interview red flags to watch out for 🚩

Ever interviewed for a job, got hired and then realized what a hot mess of a company you got yourself into? We’ve all been there.

The good news is that no longer has to happen. These red flags will help you determine if you’ve found something good, or if you should run straight for the door.

1. They keep rescheduling. It’s okay if they reschedule once or twice (things unexpectedly happen). But if it happens multiple times, it just goes to show how disorganized the company is. And remember: your time is just as valuable as theirs.

2. They ask inappropriate questions. Questions that are ageist, sexist, racist or simply offensive in nature show what kind of culture the company has, and potentially also show that bad behavior is tolerated and encouraged.

3. They have a drawn-out process. If you’ve attended an excessive number of interviews with the company, it could be a sign that they’re indecisive or have issues driving things to completion.

4. There’s no connection. Does the interviewer seem like they don’t want to be there? If they’re unengaged, not smiling, distracted or simply following a script, chances are the lack of warmth and interest will just grow to be worse.

5. They make a rash offer. If you had your interview on Thursday and receive an offer on Friday and told you have until Monday to decide, it shows rigidness, insecurity and even bullying on the employer’s behalf.
