DAILY INSPO

THE BIG IDEA
From writer to pet rock miIIionaire

Have you ever had an idea that you yourself dismissed for being “too silly”? You may want to consider not doing that anymore. The reason being that anything — and we do mean anything — can become profitable if you market it the right way.
Take Gary Dahl, for example. Back in 1975, on a night out, he and his friends began chatting about their pets and how messy they could become. That’s when Dahl got the idea for the world’s most well-behaved companion: a pet rock.
Dahl (who was working as a writer at this point) went home and started writing an owner’s manual for this would-be pet. Referring to its “long lifespan” and stunning ability to “play dead”, he made rocks sound like the ultimate sidekicks.
The response was phenomenal. Partnering up with two colleagues, Dahl sold an estimated 1.5M rocks in just a few months, nestled in boxes with ventilation holes. From struggling writer to miIIionaire, practically overnight! 💰
Though this was a few decades ago, fads will always appear out of nowhere and win hearts across the world… For seemingly no good reason.
So, what’s your silly idea going to be?

TODAY’S ADVICE
Organize your workday like your life depends on it

In light of Get Organized Day, we’ve put together some tips to help you to just that. After all, the more organized you are, the more productive you’ll be — and the more accomplished you’ll feel.
Make to-do lists. Sticky notes, an online organization app or even a simple notebook will help you take control of everything you need to do.
Prioritize. After you’ve listed all your tasks, prioritize them by importance and urgency. This way, you ensure you don’t end up spending 3 hours on a low-priority task when you’ve got bigger fish to fry 🐟
Use a planner. Breaking down your long-term goals into shorter objectives can help you strategize how you reach those goals. (We created a daily planner that will help you out.)
Don’t multitask. It just makes you less productive and efficient. Instead, focus on one task or project at a time, and start another once you’ve finished the first one.
Tidy your workspace. The less clutter and chaos, the better off you’ll be. When you have fewer distractions, you’ll see better results.
Block your time. Schedule your workday in blocks of time. For example, write that report between 2pm and 3pm, and dedicate yourself to the task at hand. Don’t answer any emails until your blocked-out time for that ⌛
