TALKING POINT
Is it okay to make up an excuse to get out of work? 🤔
If your company offers PTO, then you don’t need to come up with a clever excuse to have a mid-week “chill day”. But if they don’t, you might be wondering what tale you can spin.
While we’d never encourage you to lie, we wouldn’t frown upon some much-needed time off. We believe that all companies should advocate for some kind of paid leave for mental health. You’re not going to be productive at work, anyway, if your head and heart aren’t in it.
So, while we wouldn’t personally lie to get out of work, some good excuses to use are:
My WiFi is down
I need to take my pet to the vet
I have to go to court
I’m not feeling well
My car broke down
I’ve injured my wrist
Have you used any other excuses? Let us know what worked.

TODAY’S ADVICE
Watch out for toxic coworkers ☣️
Dealing with toxic coworkers can be a challenge, but recognizing their behavior can help you cope. These are 5 common types of toxic coworkers — and how to cope with them:
1. The Gossip. This coworker loves to spread rumors and negative stories about others in the workplace. To deal with them, stay away from discussing personal matters and don’t engage in gossip yourself.
2. The Constant Critic. They always seem to have something bad to say about your work. Try to focus on their constructive criticism, and ignore their negative comments.
3. The Underminer. This coworker will try to sabotage your efforts to make themselves look good. To manage them, keep a record of your accomplishments and make sure to share them with your supervisor.
4. The Micromanager. Micromanagers aren’t just bosses! Coworkers will also try to control everything, from your schedule to your tasks. Communicate openly and honestly about your workload and plans.
5. The Bully. Bullies are controlling and intimidating. To cope with them, document any incidents of bullying — and report them to management.
